West Anglia Crossroads was established in September 2006 following the amalgamation of Crossroads Caring for Carers Huntingdonshire, South & East Cambridgeshire with Crossroads Peterborough. Prior to this, in October 2005 Huntingdonshire Crossroads amalgamated with Crossroads South & East Cambridgeshire. Both Huntingdonshire Crossroads and Crossroads South & East Cambridgeshire was set-up in 1985.

Nationally, the Crossroads Association was set-up in 1974 and supported just 28 families. Today over 4.4 million care hours are provided every year by member schemes to more than 35,000 carers - the equivalent of over 500 years of care.

Crossroads :
* Is a specialist voluntary organisation whose primary function is to provide support to carers, who are providing care to a relative or friend within their own home.
* Give a much-needed break to carers to enable them to have some time away from their caring duties and thus helping to maintain the caring relationship.
* Provide a service over a twenty-four hour period, seven days a week to a range of carers and people with complex needs.

A full range of services provided by Crossroads is documented in their Statement of Purpose and Service User Guide. The latter is given out to all service users and contains relevant policies and procedures.

Last year the branches of South and East Crossroads and the Huntingdon branch amalgamated. Crossroads West Anglia operates from two premises, one in St Ives and one in Peterborough. The care workers remain in two teams, and go to their respective offices for supervision and team meetings. A service is currently provided to 180 adults and 70 children.

The service supplied is dependent on identified need and level of priority, including support to carers by enabling them to have a break from their caring responsibilities. This covers a range of support services including personal care for the cared for person, assistance to carry out activities both at home and in the community, assistance with mobility as well as more specialist tasks as required by the care plan. Crossroads also run group lunch clubs across the county, a young carers project in Huntingdon and a Saturday club for children with autistic spectrum disorder.
