The agency had 1267 service users and 491 domiciliary care workers at the time of the inspection. There were also 49 administrative staff and 30 management staff. The agency covers the whole of Worcestershire and is divided into three geographical areas, each managed by a registered manager. The agency operates as a “safety net” taking referrals when no other service is available. It is in a time of change, moving towards the provision of a shortterm, intensive service with transfer of longer-term work to other agencies providing services under block contracts. The management of this transfer represents a substantial area of work for the agency. The majority of the service is provided to older people, with small specialist services to people with learning disabilities, with mental health problems, and to children and families. In the last year the agency has also developed a specialist dementia service called “Side by Side”.
