The idea of a community hospice was discussed in 1993 by a group of individuals, interested in developing a co-ordinated, community-based, hospice care service for patients with advanced disease and their carers, living in Tynedale. It has been up and running for many years and is a triumph of determination, fundraising and dedication of the community of Tynedale.

Tynedale Community Hospice is a registered charity. It aims to support the Primary Healthcare Team in delivering care to people who have a life limiting illness who wish to be cared for in their own home. The service is provided by hospice support workers and is managed by Christine Mitchell who has been involved with the charity for several years. There are close links with the District Nursing team and the Macmillan nurses. The charity is also registered to provide nursing care. The premises are shared with the charity shop and a bookshop that are situated on the main street through Hexham. A guide to the agency’s services and inspection reports are readily available at the agency office. The agency does not charge any fees for providing services.
