Summerland Support was set up in 2003 to provide a stable and caring environment for people with learning disabilities. The company has four houses in Torquay, providing accommodation for up to fourteen tenants. The company provides a service to most of their clients under a Supporting People scheme. This scheme currently accommodates eleven tenants with learning disabilities in three houses in Babbacombe and Shiphay. The agency aims to provide for people with learning disabilities whatever their level of need. This varies from very close to minimal or occasional care and support, and closely resembles that of a care home with twenty-four hour care and support provided by dedicated rostered staff. This service is registered as a domiciliary care agency as it currently provides personal care to two tenants, and may need to offer personal care to other clients in the future. The domiciliary care agency confines its service to these particular people only. There is no intention to offer a service outside the supported living scheme. The fees for this service varies considerably depending on the level of care and / or support needed and are individually negotiated.
