St. Anne’s Community Services provides a range of services for people who may require support, through a number of separate projects, across Yorkshire and the North East of England. St. Anne’s Community Services in County Durham is a branch of the larger organisation. It is registered as a domiciliary care agency to provide support services, including personal care, to 21 people with learning disabilities now living in their own homes. Although the agency is run from an office base in Sherburn, the people being supported live at 3 separate sites across County Durham. These sites are: ‘Alan Gray Court’ in Newton Aycliffe; ‘Marwood Park’ in Durham City; and ‘Portland Avenue’ in Seaham. St. Anne’s Community Services provides the staff needed to support the people in these supported living arrangements. The people supported have tenancy
agreements with ‘Riverside North East Housing Association’. However, it is only
the support and personal care element of the service that is registered and
inspected (as a Domiciliary Care Agency) under the Care Standards Act 2000.

The agency is managed from Sherburn by Mrs. Lisa Alcorn. Each of the 3 sites has its own staff and local management team. Support is provided on a 24 hour, highly individualised basis. Most of the people the agency supports moved into these supported living arrangements following the closure of ‘Earls House Hospital’ in Durham: a ‘long-stay’ hospital for people with learning disabilities. From information provided by the manager, the fees charged for the service range from £64,000 to £116,000 a year.
