Somerset Care at Home (Taunton) is a branch of Somerset Care Ltd. The agency is based at Swingbridge House and occupies a self-contained office suite on the outskirts of Taunton. The manager is Val Knowling who has been Community Services Co-ordinator since 1991.The agency is registered as a large agency providing domiciliary care to older people, service users with physical disabilities, service users with sensory impairment, service users with learning disabilities, those with a mental disorder and children. There are currently 623 adult service users and 5 children. It should be noted that not all eceive personal care.

The agency offers a combined care service and a sitting service. Somerset Care was successful in tendering for Social Service contracts in Somerset in September 2004. In September 2005, as part of the reorganisation of the company, Taunton branch has been merged with the Wellington branch. The merged branch provides care in a wide area centred on Taunton, Wellington and Wiveliscombe. Care is provided for service users in a large rural area including several major villages.

All planning and administration functions are undertaken at Taunton. The building has been adapted to provide additional staff accommodation. There remains a small office at Wellington where staff can meet with field co-ordinators and collect aprons and gloves. There 141 care staff. Re-organisation of the agency structure has resulted in an emphasis on support and review of staff and service users in the community. Six field co-ordinators have responsibility for managing teams of carers allocated designated areas.
