Sefton Carers Centre is located in a busy, local shopping area of Waterloo. It is easy to get to by public transport and has some car parking available. The office is on the ground floor and is accessible for people with mobility difficulties. The Carers Centre provides a variety of services for people living in Sefton who care for an adult relative or friend. Part of the Centre is a Domiciliary Care Agency, which provides support to Carers and the person they care for. This report relates to the agency, which is registered with the Commission for Social Care Inspection. There are two types of service provided by the agency : 1.CERT and 2.FAB.

1. CERT is the Carers Emergency Respite Team. They are available 24 hours a day and provide short term, unplanned home care for people whose Carer is unable to continue in their role due to an emergency. Once registered with the agency a Carer can contact them and they will provide support for up to 48 hours in the person’s home. If additional support is needed they will work with local agencies to make sure this is provided. They aim to respond to an emergency call within 1-2 hours.

2. FAB is the Flexible Accessible Breaks Team and provides pre planned short breaks for Carers. Carers can book this service in advance and Staff from the agency will visit the Service User in their home and provide the support that their Carer would usually provide. This may include some personal care, shopping, meals and companionship.

Sefton Carers Centre is a unique domiciliary care agency in that there is no charge for the service provided and in the fact that it does not provide regular service to people. Many of the people who use the service use a different agency to provide them with day to day support with personal care and daily activities. Although there is no charge for using either service, Carers and the person they care for need to register with the agency before they can use their services.
