SeeAbility Devon Support Service is one of a range of services provided by SeeAbility, a registered charity working with adults who have a visual impairment and additional disabilities. SeeAbility’s purpose is “To see beyond disability and enable blind and partially sighted people with additional disabilities to achieve their full potential”. This domiciliary care service was registered in May 2006, although the service was not fully established until August 2006.

The service’s registered office is in Honiton, a single storey, purpose-built building, where independent supported living accommodation is also provided by SeeAbility. The local Honiton-based service is also referred to as Bradbury Support Services, in recognition of a local company who were involved in the project. There is an office base in Exeter, for the service provided locally there which is also referred to as Exeter Support Services. There is adjacent purpose-built accommodation, but a different landlord manages it. Both offices are overseen by Sue Bayes, the registered manager, with managers and teams of staff based at each office. Where service users live in accommodation provided by SeeAbility, the accommodation is not subject to regulation by the Commission. Tenants are free to choose any care agency to support them - there is no obligation for tenants to contract with SeeAbility domiciliary care services.

Charges are £16.37/hour to £18.15/hour, depending on whether rehabilitation or independent living skills training are part of the person’s support package. Where the charge is for a ‘sleep-in’ staff member who is available to more than one service user (up to a maximum of eight people), the cost is shared between the relevant users.
